about
Hey, I’m Iqbal — SRE and platform engineer at Pintu, a crypto exchange based in Indonesia.
I’ve been at Pintu since the pre-seed days, all the way through Series B. I’ve seen the infrastructure go from a single VM, through Nomad, and eventually to Kubernetes — and I’ve had a hand in most of that journey.
Along the way I’ve handled production infrastructure for some of Pintu’s core products — Pintu retail app, Web3 Wallet, and Rupiah Token among them. Beyond the usual SRE work — monitoring, on-call, SLAs, keeping things up — I also own the CI platform end-to-end: the runner fleet, the tooling, the whole thing. It serves multiple monorepos and 100+ engineers across the company.
Before that — and still on the side — I’ve been deep in Web3. Smart contracts, NFT infrastructure, gas optimization, token platforms. It’s a different world from platform engineering but the underlying discipline is the same: build things that hold up under pressure.
some things I’ve worked on:
- Kubernetes — run Pintu’s clusters across prod, staging, and UAT so engineers can focus on shipping. Deployments, scaling, monitoring, debugging — keeping the platform stable and out of the way.
- Monitoring — run the observability stack for 100+ microservices so teams can ship with confidence. Datadog APM, Prometheus, Grafana — giving engineers and on-call the visibility to catch things early and move fast without breaking stuff.
- CI platform — built and own Pintu’s CI platform end-to-end: self-hosted runner fleet, monorepo-aware build multiplexer, and cost attribution across multiple monorepos. ~55K workflow runs/month, ~2,800/day, 100+ engineers depending on it. Took it from greenfield to BAU. Cut CI spend by ~50% in the process. Cost is attributed per team and per PR so it’s never just an opaque infra line item. Engineers also get run insight — real-time CPU, memory, and disk usage for their runner so they can actually see what’s happening inside a job.
- Mason CLI — internal developer platform I built and maintain. Covers local dev, build, test, and deploy in one tool. 100+ engineers use it as their main interface to the platform.
- Helped ship NFT infrastructure at Gaspack (40K+ mints, $600K+ sales) and co-authored a paper on blockchain-based royalty protection at IEEE ICC 2023
outside work:
I help run the Kubernetes & Cloud Native community in Indonesia — mostly workshops and meetups. We’ve reached 500+ engineers over the years. I also help organize Global Diversity CFP Day, which is about getting more people from underrepresented backgrounds onto conference stages.
I occasionally post on YouTube — IoT, software, system architecture, and whatever else I’m figuring out.
tools I reach for:
Infra & orchestration: Kubernetes (EKS), Istio, Nomad, Terraform, Atlantis, Ansible, Vault, Consul
CI/CD: GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Kustomize, Karpenter
Observability: Datadog APM, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana Cloud, Loki, Pyroscope, Elasticsearch
Cloud: AWS, GCP, Azure
Languages: Go, Python, Bash, TypeScript — and Solidity when something blockchain-adjacent comes up
